We Can’t Pull the Wool Over Hadley Collectors’ Eyes!

May 17, 2011

The Hadley Factory today...take a tour when you're in town!

Day 3 of MAH Birthday Trivia, and once again, you’ve surprised us with your Hadley history knowledge.

The building that has served as the Hadley factory since 1944 (when George purchased it as a birthday gift for Mary Alice), was actually built in 1848, and had been home to several businesses including a candle factory, a cordage mill, and most notably, a wool factory.

The building was one of the first commercial buildings in Louisville to have electricity and fire sprinklers.

Today if you visit the pottery in Louisville, you will see murals on the walls that were painted by Mary Alice herself, as well as some of her original pottery pieces on display in the front windows of the sales room.

Tours of the factory are available daily, with some limitations. Visit us online to learn more about factory tours, a truly memorable experience for an avid Hadley Collector.
